The rear torque link from the rear caliper to the swing arm is rusting away where the bolts join, I'd previously sanded this down and applied some stuff called Krust to sort the rust out and then used some metal paint to try and salvage it but to no effect. There seem to be soooooo many 'right' ways to do this on the internet I'd be interested to hear from anyone who can tell me how I can hand paint this and leave a finish tough enough to withstand the bolt being tightened up against the paintwork?

You probably want to wire wheel it first to get all the rust off. Then apply an etching primer that contains zinc. Then an epoxy top coat. It's hard to find epoxy in a rattle can, so the next best thing would be tractor & implement paint or appliance paint. -
