  • Taller sprockets?

    Hi, I'm fairly new. 1999 GSX-600

So I've put about 1500 miles on the katana already this year after buying it in february and so far I love the bike. My only gripes are that I think the gearing a little too short and that my speedometer is off by about 10mph. The reason for this sprocket question is that I'll be doing mostly long (30-40m) highway commutes. I get 45mpg puting around town (which is awesome) and a little more with highway riding mixed in.

    Questions:
) What are the OEM Sprocket sizes?
) What size sprockets will make my RPM's drop from ~7k at ~70mph?
) How can I fix my speedometer problem? (EX: 80mph = ~70 actual)

Thank you for any help gurus!

15/47 is stock for a post 600...750's run a 45 rear...which would drop your rpm a bit on the 600, and get a little bit more top end, but may be sacrificial on the bottom end a little.

oh, chain pitch is a 530, btw....

The speedo being off by like 10% is normal.
If it really bothers you, you can install a speedo-healer.
