Default Dash lights on, no headlights, no ignition

I have a 2006 Katana 600. The bike was running fine the other day but now I have no ignition and no headlights. Neutral light comes on though. I replaced the fuses and still nothing. It's got a brand new battery( not even a week old). Any ideas?

Bad connection, lost ground, most likely the battery or the ignition switch.

I was going to write that if you have no ignition, you won't need headlights, but I decided not to. The junkman will likely get you fixed up. Best of luck on that.

True. But I put it mildly. Elgin. Texas? Near Austin?

South Carolina. Small little town. Full of riders though so can't complain haha. Well I found the problem.. it's the negative wire to the fuel. I played with it for a while and got the bike to start but it has a short in it so I tried cutting and rewiring but it didn't work. Any suggestions for that? Did I mess it up?
