Need to hotwire the starter

Just picked up a 1990 Katana 750 with one problem the starter will not turn if you push start the bike it starts fine so I need to figure out if it the starter or the button.
How to I run a hot wire to the starter to see if it will turn?
if it does I will assume it is the wiring or the button if it does not I have to assume its the starter.

check the solnoid it could be going bad jsut jump the 2 big red wires that are bolted to the solnoid across to each other witha screw driver or pliers somethign metal that will tell you if its working then check the wiring

I have yet to take off the bodywork where is the selinoid is it attached to the starter or mounted elsewhere
dont mean to sound like a fool the Suzuki is new to me had a 93 zx7 for the past 13 years put it up for sale to free up some cash as the wife is having a baby & i was offered the kat & 2500.00 for my ZX so needles to say i went for it.
