  • Carb problems, searched but no go....

Ok so I may just be over looking and I have no idea what the he!! I'm doing when it comes to carb. So where I am right now I have replaced float o-ring's, bowl gastets, sync carb's, set af (2 turns out), adjusted idle, about to check for a vac leak. The bike starts great, idles at 2k no less. Revs a lot better after the sync, and they where way off! So I still have one dead cyl at idle and it comes alive when you rev past 3k (before the sync 4K). I can't get the damn thing to idle for my life at 1200ish just dies out. Spark is good no jumps on the wires just can't seem for the life of me to get things where they need to be!

The float's are also set at 15mm, sync is dead on for the most part at 3K, and runs good when in the upper rpm. I'm just really looking for some help, pointer's right now as I'm in a steap learning curve with carbs. I have looked through carbs 101!!

2.5 turns out Not that I think that's why you have a dead cylinder, but they should be at 2.5 turns out.

Carbs 101 states 1.5 to 1.75 turns out.. I Guess I'll pull them and look them over one more time, the first time I started the bike I had them 2.5 turns out. But I am also on stock jets, neddle's, ect.

What would be my first place to look? They never say anything about the little jets on the air box side of the carb's. Not sure if them are for air but, Im gonna get come carbs cleaner and check for a vac leak in a min. Then off they come if I find one, have to pull them because I have no tool to adjust A/F.... I would be much better off with EFI and a computer in front of me .

I know carbs 101 says that. I also know carbs 101 is wrong about that. The place you need to look is the pilot circuit. It controls low RPM's. That why anything above a certain point is good. The pilot circuit consists of the pilot jet, the pilot air jet, and the A/F screw. The pilot air jet is one of those little jets on the air box side of the carbs.

Is 2.5 turns specifically for post kats? I read that in carbs 102. Or is it just completely wrong?

No 2.5 turns out is what every bike that ever ran CV carbs needs to be at.

Well don't know if I did the right thing, but because I lost a pilot air jet I went and got 4 more from the dealer. The size that was in there was a 1.55 and the dealer told me that the only size he calls for is a 1.30. I know that will fatten the fuel at idle, and hopping that will help with knock on a 100* day. Should have them some time next week andi guess well see what happens next week when she fires up with a clean pilot jet and new pilot air jets.

See, that is total BS. You're going to listen to what the parts guy at the dealership tells you and just go with it? Why don't you just order the right ones online? There's more than porn on the internet you know?

No porn on my phone though lol! I have tryed to google parts for the mikuni carbs but can't find a web page with pilot air jets. So I went to the dealer. Gave him my vin and modle (think J) big cercle on top, and his part screen only pulled up 1.30 for them jets. But that is off my vin not sure if the carbs have been swaped...... I wantted 1.55's but I would also feel beter sitting in trafic with a "richer" idle.
