  • A shocking sight

I awoke to the sound of thunder..
    It was 5am .
I went outside to see about the Rat kat
I brought in the tank bag and covered her up.

At 8:00 I got up for good..
    Went to make coffee and...
    Dummm dummmm dhhhhhhhhh
Like a dead body left to rot in an potter's field..
There was the kat, laying, lifeless and limp.

    I ran to her..
She didnt apear to be bleeding.
    Her neck wasnt broken.
I lifted her up and too my horror so
the huge gaping hole filling with dark fluid..
Ignoreing the soaking rain and the gouts
of water pouring off the roof I moved her to safety.
Gently I tried to wake her..
    ringgg ringgg ringgg
    cough.. cough sput
    sput sput sput
    vrumm*hic*oom*hic*rooom

So anyway, it rained so hard the side stand sunk all the way into
the ground and the bike flopped on it's side.
What should I do? Anything? It has restarted..
not great But it's still pouring.
Drain the carbs? It's under cover now...
    Just let it dry out?

Not the way you want to start your day..
First thing I would do is check for gas in the oil. But I am sure you knew that already.

Oil level looks fine for cold.
        (empty.. creeepping up to normal)
I didn't smell gas in the filler or see it..
        Does it float on oil?

Well, yes, oil is more dense than gassoline so the gas will be ontop and the oil will be on the bottom. Should be easy to tell if you have an issue there. Next I would check all of you're connections and make sure nothing came undone.

            Is it?
            Or are you assumeing?
I assume it is too but I don't know for sure.
            Well it's running better..
            Knocked up the bar-ens mirrors..
But since they are the good ones..
            I just tightened them up..

Other than mud it looks OK..

                Dude!

I'd change the oil before I tried to start it again.
Where as your not sure how long it was on it's side, it'd be a good idea.
Probably got oil in the carbs or gas in the crankcase or both.

                Just do it.

Definitely spring for thoil change. At least for the piece of mind that your oil is not diluted with gas.

it definitely sucks having to leave your bike outside. a tip though, go to lowes or home depot and pick up a sidewalk stone. (a concrete rectangle about 18" x 9" x 1" thick. only a couple bucks). place it where you normally park the bike. I dug out a spot so it was flush with the ground. this gives you something solid to set the kickstand on so your bike won't sink into the mud.

sounds like you dodged a big bullet there man since the side stand sunk into the pavement, chances are the bike just came to a rest on its side and didnt actually "fall" down where more damage could have been done. What the others already mentioned would be my main concern as well as looking over every inch of the bike just to make sure you dont have a hairline crack or busted bolt anywhere that could get worse if ignored.

+1 on the sidewalk stone or some form of solid material to park the rat on.

put a pc of wood under the kickstand

No, I'm not assuming. I was telling you to go out there and look at you're oil. When you do you will ether see gas ontop of the oil or none at all.

what I did last year was I bought a hockey puck and ran it through my friends band saw and cut in in half. I keep one half at home for under the side stand and one in my jacket just incase I have to pack in a soft spot.
