  • Can you identify this?

My 1990 Katana 600 has a long black rubber nipple about 3 inches long. It hangs down on the right side bottom of the bike. It's attached to a thin rubber hose the goes up into the engine or the gas tank.

Does anyone know what it is, and what it does??

its most likely the drain tube for the airbox if im not mistaken.

Or it could be the drain tube for the tank.

+1 on that. I'd also go with the drain tube idea.

It is indeed the drain tube for the air box. It should be emptied every oil change or so, to let any oil, water (condensation), etc., come out. On the other hand, you should never run the bike with the tube disconnected or open to the outside, otherwise it will pull in air (with dirt, grime, etc) at a location past the air filter where it can go straight into the carbs and engine.

        Cheers

Thanks guys! I'll empty it out next time I do an oil change.
