  • Buying a bike with "electrical issues"

Hey guys! I had a 95 kat as my first bike, since then i've had a few other bikes and am currently looking for a new winter project. I found this bike on CL and wanted to know what you all thought. He says it has "electrical issues". For the price I figured I could just replace all the electronics. What are your experiences with PreKats "electrical issues"?

ugh.. i hate electrical issues. lol but thats a good price. Something that cheap with electrical issues probably means a new ECM, new coils, new sensors (kickstand sensor, clutch sensor). Ugh, wiring problems suck

Electrical issues with a Kat are normally wiring harness related.

Ha! Good to see another local of STL area. I was actually eyeing that myself but don't have the spare time or inclination.

Tell you what though, you pick it up and want an experienced hand in electricals lemme know - had my fair share. Shoot me a PM if ya do, would love to meetup and get another Kat on the road.

I actually just moved down here this year. I have my BS in electrical engineering so I should be able to figure this out but I'm always open to an extra pair of hands or at the minimum, someone to help me drink a few beers.

The guy actually never responded, I assume it's gone already. =[

Offer still, and will always stand for yourself and any other Katriders and riders in general. Never hesitate to shoot me a PM, would enjoy meeting up with other Katriders whether you need a hand or just wanna ride. Did my fair-share to my Pre-98 and always wished for an extra set of hands.

Make sure you have a good voltmeter on you, and a soldering setup.
