  • Is the wiring from a 2000 katana engine compatible with 1991 katana?

I recently swapped my 1991 katana 600 stock engine with a 2000 katana engine.

It seems a couple of the wires don't match up.

So does that mean that the 2000 katana 600 engine wiring is not compatible with the 1991 katana 600?

Will I need to find 2000 wiring or can I just use the 1991 wiring?

    thanks.

well, regardless of what specific wires, I just need to know whether the wires that come out of a 2000 katana engine are compatible with the rest of the 1991 katana.

connectors will likely be different, as well as the added tps wiring

Can splice them, but it would be easier an less time consuming to get a decent condition pre harness. You doing this because you put in a post motor?

yea, i replaced the engine on my 1991 katana 600 with a 2000 katana engine so now i have to find the best way to get the wiring to match up from the new engine to the old bike.

What I did which I found to be the easiest way. Use the pre harness, swap your pre alternator into the post engine so you dont have to splice those wires. Real simple

I even used the pre carbs on the post engine because they are better carbs. But if you need to use the post carbs just dont hook up the tps.

The only wires that would not match up is the alternator. (I've done the swap, I know this 100%).

As mentioned prior... take the alternator out of the pre engine, put it on the post engine...

The starter and coils are the same wire hookups pre and post.

Nothing else connects to the engine that you will use on a pre. The post spedo sensor can just set the wires to the side or tie them to the frame or something... they are not used or needed on the pre.

The only reason you would be swapping the wiring harnes is if you wanted to swap in the post handle bar pods, light connection, guages, and turn signals.

There is no need for that if you want to keep it simple.
