  • Heat shields..

So while doing the valve servicing I removed the coils and natually the plastic shields. Questions are:

What is the plastic shield for, and would I need it with out a fairing?
What is the rubber sheet for and would I need it with out a fairing?

I would sooner replace the coil shields with aluminum ones..
(looks and performance). Or add fans.

I beleive teh rubber sheild is there to divert heat and water away from the top of your engine. Unfortunatley for me, I am no longer able to use mine with the new engine, there just isn't any room.

Rubber sheet -- the one under the coils? I've only seen it on the California models (at least on the 98+ models) -- are you running California model?

Sorry guys, I guess I should have posted the years and all...

There is a rubber sheet that covers ( and attaches to) the top of the oil cooler, drapes over the front section of the head up to the plugs.

Two curved plastic "scoops" the wrap around the coils.

I have no fans, canister or odd vacuum lines to indicate a California model. I also don't have exhaust ports either.

I didn't have that on my '00 Kat 600 nor on my '01 Kat 600; the only person I know in my area with such a set-up is Malloc, who does have the rubber-sheet -- on his Cali-spec 750.

Well Bikebandit lists the coil covers in the fich..
As well as the rubber sheet called an "air guide"
It is filed under the oil cooler in the fich...

Sooooo no one knows is I should replace them?
The rubber sheet was pretty deteriorated and will need some love to get it reattached..

Thanks Lou, but if it is just over engineering by Suzi, I'll just leave it off. I will fashion some shields for the coils though. Or move them..
