  • Loose gearbox???

    Does anyone know for sure how much gearbox backlash is acceptable in gear? I think I may have too much, but I can't find a specified range anywhere.

    How are you looking at it?

    If you have the bike in gear and are rotating the wheel;
    that includes backlash from a lot of items, not just the tranny.

      On the center stand, with the chain tight and in first gear. I may be wrong, it just seems there is a little extra give. It also feels a little sloppy while riding, not bad, just a little.

        Hmmm
        rotating the rear wheel will
        show some backlash depending what gear you're in.
        Also all those gears have backlash so added up
        it could be a lot.. When do you feel it riding?
        From open to closed throttle?
        That is the same backlash..

        Maybe someone can throw theirs up on the centerstand
        and measure how much rotation they get at the rear wheel in first?
