  • Idle Screw & Idle probs

When I got the kat - previously owned, the idle screw was useless. Since it only idled a little high, I didn't worry about it. Well, I just did the 7500 mile service and noticed that the idle screw, when all the way in, does not make contact:

When I put everything back together, it idles at about 2500 when warm. Need advice, obviously. Thanks.

High idle is normally a vacuum leak or a set of throttle cables that are too tight (binding, sometimes misrouted).

Is it rock-steady at 2500 or loping up & down a bit?

Steady would imply the leak is before the carbs (probably airbox drain tube); loping would imply it's at the carbs or the velocity stacks around them, if it's a vac leak.

    Cheers,
