The Hayabusa Fork Setup

WARNING:This is not a mod that is done by itself. You should do a rear shock upgrade at the least also!

Now with that said, you will have to start out with a Katana, pre or post 1998
For the pre you will need the following
1999-2007 Hayabusa front forks or 2008-present Hayabusa front forks
1999-2007 Hayabusa front wheel or 2008-present Hayabusa front wheel
1999-2007 Hayabusa front rotors and calipers or 2008-present Hayabusa front calipers
1999-2007 Hayabusa front brake lines (preferably Stainless Steel) or 2008-present Hayabusa front brake lines
You can use your mastercylinder with these brakes
1999-2007 Hayabusa front fender or 2008-present Hayabusa front fender
1999-2007 Hayabusa front axle or 2008-present Hayabusa front axle
Make completely sure you have all the small hardware to go with all these parts mentioned!
On the pre 1998 katanas you will also need a new speedometer, post 98 sprocket cover and speed sensor ( some wiring required)
If you look at any parts fische, you will see that the bearings are completely different on the 99-07 Busa and the 08-present than the Katana. The Katana Lower will work on either Busa setup, it is press fit. As for the top bearing, will have to be a 30mm X 47mm X 15mm Tappered bearing. I also believe that this can be found thru other avenues.

You will have to remove the steering dampener tab, like I show in this picture. This has to be removed so that the headlight and it don't interfer with each other. You will have to come up with a good idea for a steering stop also.

So included in your "1999-2007 Hayabusa front forks or 2008-present Hayabusa front forks", would be the triple clamps (the lower being shown), the handle bars and mounting bracket, correct?
Do you know yet if the springs in this setup are too stiff? The Busa is a much heavier bike than our already heavy Kats.

Yes, you will need the upper and lower triple, and handlebar mount with hardware.
actually, compared to all the other setups out there, the busa setup is best for the weight of a Katana. The valving(stock) is as close as you can get without modifying the spring rate, valves etc. What is nice about the forks is adjustability compared to a Katana fork.
This will lower the frontend, changing the rake and trail also!

OK here it goes seriously!
Post 98 Katana with Hayabusa forks
everything mentioned above as far as the parts you need. You won't need a gauge cluster or the speed sensor or the sprocket cover as a pre will need, you already have that.
The lower bearing is the same size as the katana but you will also have to change the top bearing as mentioned above.
Now, the master cylinder on the post 98 katana will work perfectly also.
On my frontend swap I opted for the gsxr remote reservoir.

you want a how to on how to remove and install forks basically because all you need to do is the remove the old front end,sprocket cover ect. as mentioned above and use the parts list listed above and build the new front end and install. and follow the slight things thazkat mentioned that needed to be modded to fit your headlight and i think something about bump stops

The stem is longer on the Hayabusa but for good reason. There are 2 adjuster nuts under the handlebar mount, the mount itself and a nut on top of that.

I think I have covered that in the katbusa, chrome project threads. Many pics of both setups. I was trying to avoid 20 pages of pictures and get down to the main stuff. If pictures is what you want then I will post that later today.

I have about $400 into mine. Ebay was good to me and many good friends that had spare parts they were willing to part with for less than nothing.


You will also need a speedhealer for the pre to be sure to get the speedo dialed in.
