Just don't get upset if you become an amputee, remember, you made the choice.

By no means did I mean that I was going to ride without gear. The only riding I'll be doing before I get in my new gear is riding the bike back from the gas station it's at after I fix it. I've been doing alot of research into what kind of gear I want.

By saying I'll still play the lotto I ment I didn't think I was all that lucky since I had two wrecks in two weeks, not that I wasn't getting more gear.

think about it this way. . .

would you go onto a football field with your favorite team. (allow the team in full gear and you in tennis shoes and shorts) 11 players on each side, 21 in uniform and yours is at the cleaners, and play a full on scrimmage? Thats 250 lb players running at 10 - 12 miles an hour, you've got the ball and the end zone is 99 yards away. Think you could make it untouched??

Now imagine the hiway...

Several thousand players on the opposing team, ranging 4,000 to 80,000 lbs, wrapped in a steel uniform, running 65 t0 80 miles an hour. you've got the ball, no-one on your team to run blocker, and home is how far away??

I went for a 20 foot slide years ago, my left ankle was jammed betwen the road and the bike, I got up and rode away with a bit of cosmetic damage to the bike, If I wasn't wearing riding boots I doubt I would have been able to ride anywhere. Did you ever notice at accident scenes there are always a set of running shoes laying in the road? You usually come right out of those suckers, also tumbling down the road your heel is at risk of getting broken along with other things. Your feet and ankles are worth the investment.

You are right on shoes coming off feet. When I had my first accident on he ninja 250 both of my shoes came off. I always wear full length boots
now.. Mainly JR speedmaster boots2.0

My brother is a prime example of what not to wear to go riding. He was hit not too long ago comming home from work on his Shadow. Needless to say that dress shoes didnt help him at all in his wreck. And yes we wound up hobbling back up the road to retreive his shoes. He wound up with his right foot being pinned between his peg and a driverside car door at about 40mph. 6 and a half hours of surgery later the Drs. say he will be in heavy pain and will need about a year to learn how to walk on it again. Had he been wearing a good heavy boot this very well could have been avoided. Perhaps a fracture or two at most but not the shattered piece of minced meat I witnessed laying on a foam pad waiting for the xrays to come in. Ride in what you like but for me its ATGATT.

How on earth can a daily commuter to a cubicle job wear ATGATT? Wouldn't you need a locker room to dress out again once you got to work? I'm sorry if I sound tee totally reticent or even stupid, but seriously? Is that what daily drivers do?

Well in his situation he had saddle bags to stow his gear and a back room if it was needed. I have a locker to stow mine. But id rather stuff it under a desk then go with out.

Pavement is not our friend when going down. The pics are the result of a bad judgement call on my part. I thought the tires were warmed up enough and I was wrong. I did a right-hand turn......rear gave out and this is what happened at no more than maybe 15mph......it "nibbled" through my buffalo-hide jacket. I only suffered a scuffed elbow.....but I can only imagine what would have happened to someone without some form of decent gear.

Yep, reminds me of some road rash I got riding a 10-speed to work back in '01. Yeah the pavement is a total *****. But, I still wouldn't go back in time to wear full leather gear on my 10-speed. I think I'm an idiot.........



The stuff I saw in the Cyclegear store the other day was so darned expensive I started thinkin about ways to make my own schitt.

it's sux cause I either have to wear one or the other, not both. I am talking about my icon knee shin armor and my 2 pair of leather pants. Wish. Could fit icon armor under leather pants with high boot.
