I was hoping you guys could give me some ideas as to what would be the best first upgrades (engine & cosmetic) all I have now is a d&d slip-on exhaust.

hugger maybe, a rear solo cowl...front sprocket, new headlight bulbs, new tires, Ivans Jet kit..
you live where a buddy of mine lives...he has an sv650s..

I think a nice inexpensive upgrade is changing the windscreen. I have a dark smoke windscreen on my Kat, but I've seen many other nice aftermarket windscreens. Makes the bike look cooler IMHO. Oh yeah, and definitely chop the shovel like rwc says if you haven't already. That doesn't cost anything but time and maybe a bracket.****** WAS...Ma Ma Ma My Katana ******

clear alternatives signals and tail light

ignition advancer
K&N air filter
illumiglo gauges
just to name a couple

UPGRADE: REFLECTIVE EMERGENCY TAPE.
While I have to say that this is a downgrade
in appearance (thus instantly subjective)
I also fear that too many passive safety
features reduce a new (or still learning) riders
active features.. Survival skills..
IMO a rider must never think someone can see him.
UPGRADE: CASTROL GPS SYNTHETIC OIL, MOBIL 1 MX4T SYTHETIC OIL..
I won't argue synthetics..
But while you may have first hand experiance with
the improvments but is it a top 10?

For day to day use of the Kat
I havent needed more luggage space.
Granted a rack would allow day to day
two up riding but again top 10?.

I think people here won't argue that
changing the stock tire is a good thing.
But the ones with Pilots, Dragons etc..
would disagree that:

OR VALVOLINE SynPower CLEAR BRAKE FLUID
I agree with using LMA brake fluid.
However IMO Braided lines will not only
improve performace (big bang for the buck)
but they greatly extend the life span of the lines.
LMA brake fluid is so cheap (IMO) it is a no brainer.
I would list the braided lines as they actually cost money..
UPGRADE: Headlight/Tail light flashers,
Light flashers annoy me in my car.
(the Gold wing especially!)
This falls into the "loud pipes save lives"
catagory. Irritate a driver and he will
notice you.. Hate you.. drive distracted..
Maybe cause an accedent.
Target fixate.. on and on?

For some reason work is blocking the link above. If it was me..
1) regear (not sure what's the best combo for a 600, but that's the first thing I'd do)
2) Stainless brake lines and upgrade the pads
3) Sell the slipon and buy a full exhaust
4) Jet kit
5) k & n
6) Get some pilot powers
The above mods will be expensive enough...Comment
