  • OK, Be Honest. What Is Really The OEM Sprocket Setup?

    Hi All,

As many of you know, I ride a '04 Suzuki 750 Katana that I purchased from a dealer. Based on what I've been told and what has been stated many times on this forum, the stock sprocket setup for a Katana is 15/47. However, I realized my back sprocket is a 45 tooth sprocket. Confused, I consulted my authentic Suzuki service manual for my Kat (year 2004 for the manual) and it too indicates a 15/45 as stock setup.

So, what the heck is the stock setup of a Katana?

            Maybe I'm just WRONG.
            DOES HAPPEN.
If everyone's 750 came with a 15/45 then I'll accept that to be true, although I was still seeing a 15/47 as OEM in the Suzuki fiche files...

my 98 had 15/45. I switched to 15/47. not a huge difference, but noticeable.

Look, as far as I can tell, it goes like this:
Suzuki USA claims stock sprockets for the 98+ Kat 750 are 15/47, according to all the documentation I've found. If someone has a 98+ Kat 750 owner's manual that says (last 4 pages) that it came stock with a 15/45, I'd love a scan of it.
Most of the aftermarket vendors claim stock sprockets for the 98+ Kat 750 are 15/45, 15/44 (or even 14/45!), but I don't trust 'em at all to know what they are talking about.
It appears the Canadian market versions of the 98+ 750 are 15/45 when new.
The RK+Vortex combo pack I have here says 15/47 was stock for the 89-97 Kat 750 and the 98-02 Kat 600. But it's aftermarket, so I don't trust them...

But bottom line -- WTF cares? Seriously! Get whatever makes you happy!
If you're used to 15/45, stick with it. Want 15/47? Do it. Love 15/48? OK, whatever
If you're concerned with speedo differences, go by the info in your owner's manual to calculate the basis for difference.

                            Cheers,
