  • A few questions

I have a 97 600. I dumped it last night. The fairings are toast. The windsheild is broken and the mirror is broken off as well. Whats a decent price range to look at for a complete body kit. I also don't like the double seat and want a hard cover where the passenger seat is. Can I find different kits for this? I would also like a newer body kit on it. What's it going to take for me to put on a newer kit?

    Thanks,
    Robbi

      Welcome to KR

Sorry to hear about your accident, hope you are ok.

It's amazing how you can repair almost any plastic damage. Have any pics??

Dont know about aftermarket fairings for pre-kats, best bet would to try to get some used right here or on ebay.

A newer body kit would in no way be a bolt on, but I guess it could be done with plenty of time, money and modifications.

Search the forum, there is a lot of body mods done. Search for Kwebbel to see an example of extreme mod.

..or you could always go the streetfighter route.

I just checked out that street fighter version and fell in love with it. I am looking for stuff for it butam not having a lot of luck. As long as there isn't a whole lot of cutting to be done, I should be able to do it myself. What do I need to be prepared to spend financially on this mod?

Sorry to hear about your accident...I am going streetfighter route..when I bought mine the plastics were scraped and cracked but it depends how far you want to take it...if you shorten the tail section that would involve a lot more cutting than just changing out the headlight and hidding the electrical and so on...I personally am just guna go with mine and what happens happens so its up to you the best part about a streetfighter is its up to your imagination...ride it like you crashed it..no pun inteaded...

you can get used fairings from ebay as stated. their are companies that make complete sets of pre98 katana fairings such as Cheetah and Meijer. As for the passenger cover, I sell solo seat covers for you bike and i am currently running a sale on them. click on my webstore in my signature. You can get pretty crazy with the body like Kwebbel or Waltari. You can also check out my Chrome Project Part 2 link where I did a dual headlight setup.

Alright I appreciate it. What's the difference between the 85.00 solo cowl and the 200.00 solo seat cowl? I just took all of the fairings off of the bike. I couldnt ride it with them on. I am just going to spray paint the rear fairings black and put them back on for now as a temporary fix. The headlight assembly looks like hell without the fairings on but they are broken all to hell and I couldn't ride it otherwise. Will it be alright having the fusebox and the wiring exposed temporarily? This is my only vehicle so I really have no choice but to do what I have to to keep the bike rideable. I am going to be doing all of this work myself. I am good with the mechanics of the bike but cosmetics are another story. I will be asking quesitons on here constantly until I get it taken care of. Obviously, I am trying to do this as cheap as possible but I don't want crap parts on it either.

              Thanks,
              Robbi

the difference is the $200 one is OEM meaning that it was made by Suzuki which that part is discontinued from them so you can not order it from Suzuki meaning it is super rare. It is made of ABS plastic the same material as the stock fairings. It also comes with a OEM back pad. the $85 cowl is handmade of polyester resin and does not come with the back pad but i do provide holes if you want to make one. i do have a handmade back pad thats used you could have for another $25. I do have an installation video on my Youtube account under the same name mreedohio.

there really arent any 100% bolt on alternative headlight setups for the kats if you plan on keeping the fairings. i modified my fairings to fit a dual headlight see links in my signature. as far as complete pre98 katana fairing kits try http://lafiberglass.com/suzuki_katana or www.cheetach.com (i think).

I was thinking that. My knowledge on all this is limited. I'm a pretty new rider. Have about a month of riding time on my Kat. I've been on cruisers. My mom is a Harley nut. But sports bikes are a totally new thing to me. I guess I was bound to dump my first bike sooner or later though. How will putting a wider rear tire on the bike affect performance?
