suzuki gs650g 1981 katana cam chain guides

hey all i am new to this forum...
i am a owner of a suzuki gs 650g 1981 katana
i have rebuilt the motor but relised that the long and short cam chain guides are worn i can replace the long one with ease but the one short one that u need to remove the barrels to get to but cant... how do i get to it do i need to split the motor or what as this is the finalie piece to completing the protect... any help will be appricated
