adjusting valves tool

I have read on several post that a valve adjusting tool is needed. Even thought the tool in inexpensive, I was going to attempt to adjust the valves this coming weekend.

My question is: Is the tool a convenience or a necessity?

Convenience. There are other ways to do it... some of them require the use of more than two hands.

I have one still in a package if you need it. I thought I had tappet valves, but it turns out I have bucket and shim, so I don't need it. I bought it for $8.00 off Cyber Poet. If you want it, you can have it for $5.00.
