Speedo/Dash replacement

I seem to have a dead speedo. I replaced sensor and verified countershaft washer is in place. If I have to replace speedo/dash, does new one start at 0 miles? Is there a memory/battery backup that recalls mileage? Thanks in advance.

Mileage is stored in the speedometer so, if you replace it it will show what the old bike had or zero if new. A speedometer shop may be able to change that, I know they can on cars with a document stating the change for legalities.

Thanks 92x, Ever heard of anyone having a failed speedo? Seems a shorted wire more likely.
