  • Battery or Worse?

    Got a 2006 Kat that won't start.

I trickle charged the battery and connected it back up. Checked voltage and it's 13.8V. Clock works, I put the key in, and everything is normal.

As soon as I turn the key to the on position, everything goes dead. No click, no nothing. DEAD.

Put the volt meter on the posts and it reads 10.4V

Is this a buggered battery or something worse? I hope just battery but it's pretty new, as in a season old.

    Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like the battery or a poor connection somewhere.

sounds like new battery time. 10.4V most likely a dead cell.

Same exact thing happened to me! I need to do some testing of the electrical components to see if I can track this down.

I have to wonder if my wiring might have a problem. Last year when we ran the bike put it up for the winter we noticed some of the wiring sparked. We need to take the fairing off to check when we have a full day to mess with it.

Easy test, disconnect the positive lead, put your meter in between the cable and the battery post see if there is a draw on the system.

Your battery may be able to carry a 13v charge but it's not carrying the amperage needed.
You can have your battery load tested at the parts house, that will tel you for sure.

This is exactly what I did and it turns out I need a new battery.

            Thanks for the advice!
