my bike is almost past the 600 mile mark and I went in yesterday to make an appointment for service at a local dealership so I wouldn't void my extended warantee. I was shocked when the lady told me 360 plus parts. Is the 600 mile service really that expensive or did she just not know wtf she was talking about?

I assume you're taking it back to the dealer u got it from right? A good portion of that price is most likely labor charges. I'd call back, ask for the service manager and ask him for sure what the labor rates are for his shop, and make sure he isnt going to do any more than what the scheduled maint. requires for your warranty.

no actually the dealership I bought it from is in San Jose, which is about a 45 minute drive from my house. I'm going to call them and see what they charge for 600 mile service.Originally posted by AbeezieSoNeezie
fact: a yammie is a girls bike
fact: more that one girl rides yammies therefore yammies = a bunch of girls
fact: girls lie
therefore, the following equation is true.
girls = yammah
yammah = a bunch of liars

I dont remember my buddies 600 mile service being anywhere near that much for his suzuki.. Im thinking it was more like 150.00 or so. How much are labor rates out in your area?

thanks alot guys. you made me quite sure that I will never purchase a new bike. aside from tires, my bike cost me less than $100 a year to maintain..if that. my 92 was the same for 11 years. oil change, tires, brake pads and chain every 2-3 years....regular maintenance stuff...when I felt like it. it lasted 11 years and over 120k miles. new bikes sound pretty damn expensive to keep the warranty valid, and I kinda think it is a scam. what does this extended warranty give you? it better be everything and not just the motor....cuz there is very little chance the motor will go on you unless you let it run dry on oil or beat the crap outta it. 2 services a year? 3?
$700-1k a year just to maintain a bike??
Sounds like a bad deal to me.I don't have a short temper. I just have a quick reaction to bullshit.

Hi, over here in europe we ask the dealer if we can deliver the bike naked. That saves a lot off labor costs.
I have no prices from here becose i'm riding an older type and do the servicing by my self, saving lots off money, but also no warranty
For mounting a tyre they ask aprox. 15 euro including balancing? balance? with a new tubeless ventil? when i deliver the wheel.
Im sorry but my english is not so good

I think it's the valve adjustment that does it, it really drives up the price.
Buy a service manual, bite the bullet for the first few services to not void the warranty. It's only a one year Warranty anyway(at least up here) .
Then learn to do your own work.

I paid $165.CAN for my first scheduled service and it took them about 1hr15min. They couldn`t drop the oil pan when I requested it because I need to give them time to order the oil pan gasket (they keep none in stock ) That will be done on the next service which will definately drive the rate up. They`re hourly rate is $90hr.

The 600 mile service is basically the same as the 7.5k service except for spark plugs, and should be billed at 3.4 hours of labor "by the book" (the official Suzuki labor guide for billable time).
Typical 600 Mile Service invoice:
1 Each Oil Filter: $10 - $15
4 Qts Oil: $15 - $50 (depending on type/brand used -- bulk house brand is usually $16, top-shelf/your-call is around $40 - $50)
3.4 hrs labor at shop rate (let's call it a typical $75/per): $255.00
Sales taxes on above (varies by location, and whether it includes labor)
Possible oil disposal fees (none to $16, varies by location)
calculate your own total...
Obviously, if your hour rate at that shop is higher than $75/hr, I'd expect it to cost more.
