  • vortex rear sprocket help

i just got a vortex rear sprocket and the numbers on it are confusing me! what are the numbers on yall's sprockets? mine says 528-49. the 49 i know is right, but the 528 is confusing me. i know i ordered a 530 sprocket from parts unlimited (1211-0404). thanks for the input.

528 refers to the part # or type of sprocket, and is not specific to your bike.

In other words, it's a #528 sprocket with 49 teeth... The 528 sprocket may fit other bikes as well.

Actually, looking at vortex's website, it is a 528 sprocket on all Kats, earlier model GSXR 600s, Bandit 600s, RF600s... and yes, it's a 530 chain pitch.

hey dude, hows that vortex chain treating you? im looking for a decent setup to replace my rear sprocket..or chain and rear sprocket...or chain, front, and rear sprockets. i dont know how crazy i feel like getting. so im looking for input.

do you have a new chain too? if so what kind, do you like it?

the sprocket is great, i'll probably go back down to a 47 tooth next time though. i have a 14t vortex front sprocket also. i went with a parts unlimited 530MOX chain and hopefully it'll last as long as my other PU chain (10,000 or so miles).

I just installed a 15/50 520 setup on mine using vortex sprockets and a RK X-ring chain, still less than 500 miles but they are looking good so far.

How many miles do you guys get from aluminum sprockets? I was always told to stay with steel on road bikes.

i don't know about the kat, but on my other bikes i had to change sprockets with the chain because i went with aluminum sprockets. they were gone in 8-10K miles. with the stock sprocket on the kat, i've been through 20,000 or so miles and the teeth aren't wore out yet. i put it in the closet for emergencies.

a steel sprocket is always going to get you more miles (harder metal)... but how many miles you get out of an aluminium one varies wildly depending on certain factors... the way you ride, how hard you are on the bike, the amount of upkeep you do on the chain and sprocket, how often you lube/clean it, etc etc...

but if you keep up with maintenance on the chain/sprocket, you should be able to pull around 15k on it... max
