Ignition Lock

I can't seem to turn the key counterclockwise to lock the ignition, I push it down and it turns a little bit then stops. The weird thing is it has worked twice some random times. Any tips so I can lock the wheel would be fantastic. I still plan on getting a disk lock, but I want the ignition to lock also.

make sure the handlebars are turned all the way to either side otherwise the lock won't engage

Only works if wheel is turned all the way to the left (owner's manual). To the left is normally where it should be when the bike is parked on the kickstand
