I just bought an 88 Katana 600 and it won't run due to an issue suspected to be the CDI. When turning the bike over it will get spark on the initial revolution but after that it won't have spark. Any help will be great and and if anyone has a CDI please let me know on here or ny private email [email protected]

Check the ignition pickup first....if it looks melted or damaged or won't show 300ohm then replace it."I'm sorry, I didn't mean to upset you when I called you stupid. I thought you already knew..."

What should the reading be for ohms?
And is there any way you can give me the readings for trigger coil, stator, and CDI? I currently don't have the manual but will be ordering it soon. Also, upon taking the fairings off of the bike I found a few wires chewed on that go into the intrument cluster. Could that be causing an issue?
The bike gets spark for every revolution now but the spark isn't the strongest.

Have the battery tested plus clean every plug connection. If you sparking now, it's not the CDI or pickup so rule out ignition parts. It's a voltage issue ( bad battery and or wiring)"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to upset you when I called you stupid. I thought you already knew..."

Anywho, nothing coming-off the instrument cluster will affect your bike running if you already have spark.
I would look-over your plugs, your pickup air gap, your primary and secondary output resistance(s) of your coils, as-well as your CDI output voltages.
No-need to look-over your stator output unless you have charging issues, in-which case I'd also look-into your R/R.
I'm curious to see a reading on the wire providing power to your coil. Should be close to source voltage. If not, look into a coil relay mod. That harness is too old to trace a short or reason for resistance (typically starter or ignition switch, in-combination of oxidized connections through-out, plus dirty grounds).
Also, condition of spark plug boots? Resistors gone bad? Bike that old, coils could be shot barring resistance tests.Last edited by IanDMacDonald; 10-18-2015, 08:18 PM.'92 GSX1100F Red/Maroon

You're making it too difficult. All you need to do is measure coil input voltage and battery voltage while trying to start. All bet one or both are low. Start at the obvious, the battery. Voltages below 10v will have starting issues, over 11v is ideal."I'm sorry, I didn't mean to upset you when I called you stupid. I thought you already knew..."
