  • morning! possible new owner with questions

Hi Just joined as i may be a owner of a 2006 750 katana very soon.
I've been offered it as a trade on my dirt bike.
Before i go further i'd like to find out a little more on the bike. Can anyone tell me a little more.
It's a low mileage bike around 7000 miles in excellent condition.
What sort of issues do i need to worry about on this model/year?

I read they are pretty reliable.
    thanks

They are indeed reliable. 95000 miles on mine and counting 0 major issues.

Might need new tires, if they're original they'll be super hard now and have shit all for traction. Also since it sat a lot it might need carbs cleaned. Hit up the wiki and read carbs 102.

good to know thanks. cleaning carbs is no problem for me.
I was interested in this for possible bit of touring too. Are they ok for that?

I've got a Corbin seat - makes a big difference for long distance. I've put on 450 miles in a day, and a bunch of 400 mile days, and felt fine after. (400 miles on the stock seat left me sore/stiff)

If you're planning on long distance touring, a taller windshield and possibly raising the bars would also both make it a bit easier on you.

So yes, you can tour on it, but keep in mind it's a budget bike so there are limitations.

I'd like some hard luggage has anyone fitted this? I see soft seems quite popular.
When i say touring i'm not looking for supersport handling, i'm quite happy to plod along at my own pace. Is that what you mean by limitations.
I just see at as a reasonable do all bike for not alot of money. Reliability is more important to me at the moment than performance.

Yes, hard cases can be mounted. FYI the katana is a sport touring bike. It's a little of both type bikes. Great all around bike. Reliability come from proper maintenance. The Kat motor is near bullet proof. Carb care is a major factor to reliability for a lot of riders here.

I owned one of those exact bikes...no issues, just a lot of fun.

FYI for the luggage racks, no one makes mounts specifically for Kats anymore, so you have to modify one from another bike or be ok custom making one.
