  • 2001 factory paint/powdercoated wheel safe cleaner?

Ok, odd question... what rim cleaner to use?

I look at wheel cleaners and some say not safe for motorcycle rims, I'm assuming its not powdercoating safe.

what wheel cleaner is safe to use on my 2001 factory black rims, the brake dust is buildin up and plain old soap and water never gets it all.

Hmm... never thought about it. When mine were black I didn't clean 'em. Now I put WD-40 on a rag and wipe the wheel down. Seems to get the stuff off and leave a surface that doesn't allow the new stuff to stick that well. (Yes I wipe off ANY excess so it doesn't get on my tire)

I use the Eagle All Wheel cleaner, works fine for me. Don't use anything for mag or plain cast wheels, the acid will kill the paint.

I thought all the 01 bikes had silver wheels, and the change over to black was 03.

WD followed by rubbing alcohol to get rid of the WD. Without the alcohol, you leave WD behind and it does a wonderful job picking up debris. You could also try straight alcohol, it may be that it will cut enough for you.

Alot of the basic cleaners should be fine for the painted wheels. Many of the warnings I've seen on the basic cleaners about use on wheels is on bare aluminum. Some cleaners will promote oxidization to occur on bare aluminum.

I believe someone witnessed this first hand by using simple green to soak a set of carbs...

There are lots of wheel cleaner products out there specially formulated to remove brake dust off of PC coated wheels.

will look for a PC safe rim cleaner then.

Nobody said hose down everything. Just a little on a rag, wipe, flip, repeat.

WD40 on a rag followed up with water on a rag. Repeat when wheel looks kinda nasty. Note to self, pick up more WD40...
