  • Carb boot o-rings

I think I may need a set but can not handle paying 30 plus dollars for
4 o-rings if at all possible, it just seems crazy to me.
So my question to you all is what size are they and dont say 2.5 or 2.6mm by 40mm because I have 10 of those already and they dont fit.
I would like to be able to purchase from somewhere like mcmaster-carr or
    something like that.

I just did this and now I cannot remember for the life of me the size. I took one out and brought it with me to my local hardware store. I am sure someone on here will be able to help you with the size.

I might have to do that but they are pretty flat so I dont want to get the wrong ones

That's what I figured. I don't reccomend skimping on those. Use the correct replacement part to minimize potential issues.

Thats kind of what I was afraid of.
Its not so much that I want to skimp on them its more
            that I find $30 total for 4 o-rings a little much.
The ones that I have that are the wrong size were $15 for 10
and they seem to be pretty sturdy.

If you order new boots, they come with the orings.

                  Thanks Krey

The diameter is just a little to small so they dont want to stay on
and they seem like they aren't big enough around.
Maybe they sent me the wrong ones
I have a grainger right up the road might have to see if
they have those in stock and compare them to the ones
                  I got from mcmaster.

                      No, not really...

I'm not sure I understand the issue. Are you feeling that if they orings don't "stick" into the boots, that it isn't the right size? Cause the OEM orings don't really do that either. The circular area on the boot is square shaped for the indention they seat in, but isn't deep enough to really "hold" the rings in really well. This allows for the orings to compress to seal well without putting too much pressure on the plastic portion of the boots where the bolts go. This prevents them from breaking/cracking.

Newly put on they come off/out pretty easily. After a few heat cycles they srart to reform their shape and seat in more securely... if that matters. It's why the old ones end up looking nearly flush with the boots.

I think... it's just a matter of over thinking it a tad. The real question is... do they work? And I know the one's I linked do, as I've used those on my Kats.

Ok the problem with the ones I have is that when I go to put them in the groove on the boot
they just pop right back off I cant even get them to stay in long enough to put the boots back on.

Get yourself some PermaTex #2 and use just the tiniest amount in the groove so the o-ring sticks to it. DO NOT use Permatex #1. RTV doesn't work either as it doesn't hold the o-rings worth a poo unless it dries. That's my little secret. I put it in two spots 180 degrees apart, I don't coat the whole groove. Just enough so the o-ring sticks.

The other thing you could do is use a small amount (we're talking small) amount of grease to hold the ring in while you put the boot on the head. It's sticky enough to work also. Again, use the two spots 180 degrees apart, just enough to make it stick.
