Im business casual at work, which means no boots, no jeans, and no tshirts, and no helmet head either. That being said I always wear a jacket, helmet, gloves, and boots to ride in, and then change at work and keep a bottle of spray gel in my desk drawer to get rid of the helmet head before I start work .

that explains why all the riders in fatiques here around wright patt afb wear vests

I commute to college and wear my jeans and jr pheonix jacket and gloves and boots.

              Commutting, reply

I commute on I-285 in Atlanta. Some folks say I am crazy for it... I almost always wear textile jacket and pants, boots (sometimes mc boots, but often lace-up jump boots, as they are more presentable and comfortable for my evening automotive technology teaching job,) and gloves.

I also almost always wear a full face helmet or flip-up chin bar helmet. Prefer SNELL approval, just makes me feel better. Once rode my for-sale Vucan 800 with one of those stupid-thin biker "helmets," and I was scared stiff! Never again! I do occasionally wear a DOT half-helmet on the cruiser.

My opinion is the textile is good protection (cool-weather Fieldsheer set has CE armor, warm-weather Joe Rocket mesh set has good pads but pockets will accomodate CE, and that's what it's gonna get, soon) and not hot and sweaty to wear. One thing I like about the JR is pant legs zip almost all the way up, making getting them on/off over boots much easier. FS pants have short, near-useless pant leg zippers, I ALWAYS have to put on/take off pants with boots off.

Upshot? I suit up fully, about 99% of the time, with textile jacket and pants, mc gloves, high boots, full-face helmet. Oh, and earplugs!

Yes! Earplugs are overlooked. I actually lost some hearing in my right ear due to wind noise and I was wearing earplugs. I tell everyone to wear them if they can.

At what speeds are considered 'deafening' with wind noise? Anyone have a good helmet that doesn't have much wind noise? Since I mainly just commute to work/around town, I don't have a long ride and I think it'd be alot of trouble to keep up with small ear plugs for a 5-7 min ride to work

for school, friends house, grocery, work, or night on the town:

helmet, leather jacket, gloves, pants (jeans or khakis), and shoes/boots.

for long rides i'll wear the same, but looking for more lower body protection.

i figure city riding, a spill won't cause me to skid across the pavement, rather rolling, or in some cars windshield. but i guess that also could be a myth.

My vega nitro helmet was pretty good at keeping out the wind noise. HJC used to be terrible with all the wind noise, but my new CL15 from HJC is actually very good. When I wear earplugs I have almost no wind noise at all.

The scorpion helmets are very good too at keeping out the wind.

My Kat and I commute 80 miles round trip, 5 days a week. 50% of the ride is at 65mph plus, the other at 45mph or below. I wear the JR jacket and gloves, full face helmet, and kaki pants. When it gets cold, we opt for the armored pants.

I read a very good article on mc and hearing protection, and it said that their test showed that all helmets tested, and likely all helmets, regardless of design or manufacturer, had wind noise of a sufficient level to damage hearing starting at 35 mph!
