Last week I posted about the best way to haul my Kat in the bed of ny pickup truck. It generated alot of helpful ideas and alot of debating. First off, thanks to all who offered advice. This was my first time hauling a streetbike (I am always hauling my motocrosser!!) and heres what I did:
1-Parked truck against a curb to minimize upward angle of ramp.
2-Have straps in tie down points in bed with hooks resting on bed walls.
3-Line bike up straight with ramp. I set up a milk crate to step up on just
to keep a good grip on bars as the bike rolled up the ramp.
4-With bike in bed, put it on kickstand to get straps in place. Once straps
are in place, put kickstand back up. Bike stayed in Nuetral.
5-Strap configurations: 2 straps from each side of clip-on clamp on top
triple clamp. One to tiedown point on floor of bed, the other to a point
at the top of the bed walls. And a strap to each passenger peg part of
frame going to front bed wall point to prevent front/back movement.
6-I compressed the forks about halfway and tightened straps.
It worked out great. About a 200 mile drive and bike stayed steady. Even a few good bumps/dips in road did'nt upset it much.
**Equipment used:
"Bed Buddy"- Bolts to front of bed. Has 3 wheel chocks and 3 strap points.
"Ready Ramp"- Folding ramp that doubles as a bed extender.
I had these for motocross use and they proved themselves great for street bike use as well. I highly recommend both.
In conclusion, I am not saying my way is the "right or best" way, I am just saying this way worked great for me and I was able to load and unload by myself. Good luck with however you choose!!
