  • O No the genarator rotor nut is loose

    Hello everyone
1983 Katana 1100 I have been hearing a small noise coming from the starter side of the engine for a little wile now when its warming up and i put it on the kick stand.
any way yesterday im riding and of course its running bitchen.
I stop at a stop sign shift down and knock knock so I turn it off and let it cool a little and went to start it again and the starter just spins( no engagement.)
Take it home pull the starter and then the stator cover
Tthe rotor nut and rotor are loose (****)
The crank shaft end where its tapered has a little galling on it.
    So what to do?

If it was me....What your stator look like? I would test it before you stick it back together. Check the resistance of all the wires against each other wire and it should be real close any way you cross check those 3 wires. I would clean up the shaft with some emory cloth and lightly file any nicks. Make sure you inspect the rotor, idler gear, pin and washer and put it back in right. Put it back together, tighten it up and hope for the best.

When it fires up check you voltage with a meter too see if it is charging. Should read slightly higher with motor running than turned off.
