Fellow Katriders,
Even though I havent been able to find a mechanic yet that can give me a concrete sensible answer for this Im confident that someone on Katriders can help me. I have a 2000 Katana 750 that's in pristine condition and has 11,000 miles on it. About three weeks ago I started noticing a strange, mysterious vibration that has me absolutely stumped and its driving my crazy! The details of the vibrations:
1. It only happens during deceleration.
2. It only happens as Im 'righting' the bike after having been leaned to turn. In other words, when the bike is leaning (and decelarating), as I steer to raise the bike back to its cruising 12 0'clock position that's when the vibration occurs.
3. It doesnt have to be a steep lean. Its actually more noticeable when I simply flick the bike over by 5 degrees or so and then straighten it up.
4. I only NOTICE the vibration in the handlebars. Doesnt necessary mean the rest of the bike isnt vibrating, thats just where I notice it.
DIAGNOSTIC DETAILS:
1. When I pull the clutch to kill the RPM's there is no vibration so its not the tires which are in almost perfect condition anyway.
2. Already checked the steering head bearings. They're in perfect condition (which given the symptoms that would be a long shot anyway).
3. I did notice shortly after discovering this that my chain was too tight. I had adjusted it to about .75 inches of slack WITHOUT the suspension being compressed. I realized it via the chain making a chirping noise. I readjusted it but I had probably put 200 to 300 miles on it while too tight.
4. I love my Kat and take care of it but I do ride it like a sport bike. I love to go out on the weekend and spend all day ridng the twisties FAST so Im not easy on it but I DONT ABUSE IT.
So, what do you think? Help me please
