  • 92 GSXR 1127 engine into 750F Kat, questions

OK, I have a 92 GSXR 1127 block, and my 90 750F in the garage, so I'll need some guidance here.
Most of my questions have been answered.

    Here's today's question:

How do I do the shift lever conversion?
Looks like I need the 1127 sprocket cover, but it ain't got a mount for the 750 shift lever?

OK, quick repsonse to that question_

I had time for an easy job, checked the valve clearances.
Need to change 3 shims on #2.
Is there an easy way to push the springs down, and change out the shims?

High lobe and slide the rocker arm over, small magnet will lift it right out. real easy.

          whatever

Bummer, for the 1st time I tried taking a shim out.
Doh! Fumbled the tiny pill sized shim and it rolled down the oil return hole.
Looks like that's a quick return to the oil pan.
Now I gotta roll the 200lb lump over and take the pan off, just to fix a mistake.

Kids, be sure to stuff a wad into those return holes before you pull a shim out.

            Moving on

OK, washed it out with waste oil from my car.
Dropped the oil pan, a tray with screen over it, below the oil galley. Pored waste oil down the drain holes and cam chain.
The shim showed up in the screen.

Lol, I recommended a magnet for that reason.

                Air filters, air box changes

OK, I'm using the 36 CV carbs and air box from the 750F, and a 1100 Katana exhaust system.
I'm planning on tweaking up the carbs step by step with a Dynojet kit.

Should the 750 airbox be modded to allow more air flow to suite the 1127?
Should I use a sexy filter like the K&N or UNI?
Should I not mod the airbox, stay with a paper Emgo filter?

                  Not necessary really

Thanks md86, I remembered you said so.
It kinda don't seem necessary, but at the top RPMs the 1127 is taking much more air than a 750.
I just have no idea how much air the 750 intake can actually handle, and what the carbs like.
It's all a complex formula of flow, and what BAP the carbs are designed for.

Well , the carbs are the same model . You COULD look at the airbox volume for the 1127 . I never worried about it . When I got mine up and running , and the mix decent , I didn't feel much need for more . I mean , 80ft/lbs at 4k RPM ? Yeah , I was happy .

It's at the top RPMs that any restriction would be felt.
Not having any power graphs to compare the 2 engines, or a Katana 1100 airbox in my hand to measure. I just have to work it out in the tuning process.

OK I'm a dummy. It's been so long since I changed the air filter, I forgot the venturi is part of the filter element.
All I need to do is buy an EMGO 1100 Katana filter and measure it all, see if it fits the 750 airbox.

Finding time to work on these projects, not easy

OK, this is the middle of the summer riding season, sure is hard to take a bike off the road for a project.
This is my track day bike, I need to have room between track days to build and tune this swap.

Here are all the big parts going into the bike:
