The air box balances the air between the carbs. It does not restrict the air flow. The filter is designed to provide the proper air restriction needed for the carbs to function correctly. You could fab an airbox, but it needs to be able to accept an OEM type filter or it will not run right and the correct size boots.

Thanks kat toy and junker. this info gives me some hope that i don't have too find another set of carbs right off the bat. appreciate the help
