Looking at a 1982 Katana 1100SZ rolling chassis. Comes with a 90's GSXR USD frontend, a GSXR rear wheel and all the bodywork front to back. Also have the original guages and electrics available. How much would you pay for a chassis of this vintage?

i'll play.
i can only go on the going prices of such a legendary bike here in AUS
but a roller like that here in aus would fetch BETWEEN AUD$1200 and AUD$1600. with an unbraced frame being 1200 and a braced going for 1600.
id look at it this way.. what would you pay for the bits hanging of the frame indivually, knock off 25% of the total from them said price, then add 350 for an unbraced frame and 550 for a braced.
then again i could just be talking out my arse here, i got no idea what prices they fetch in the U.S but here in aus youd pay 5500 for a clean example for a kat of that vintage.

well.....if all you are getting is the frame and body work, basically, I would not be giving too much for it. I have no idea what $1200 or $1600 comes to in US $'s, but that sounds real steep.
personally, I think you should try to get it as cheap as you can, then sell it to me for a 25% mark up so I will have spare parts for the RUNNING 100% original kat I am going to look at tomorrow....for $1000 (will offer him $800 and go from there).
seriously though, Matt.....you should check out the classifieds online for Quebec. There are alot of old school kats floating around here and every now and then they end up on a classified site.
there is also a 82 750, an 83 750, and another 82 1100 that I am looking at. all within 2 hours of me. like I posted in another thread, there are alot of kats in quebec for sale.....and it seems like a lot of vintage ones as well. I am kinda thinking this is the place to be if you are into kats. they are all over the place.I don't have a short temper. I just have a quick reaction to bullshit.

ok...will do. but for sure I will take my pick first. not to be greedy, but just cuz I really want a vintage kat for myself. I got a callback for 82 750. the guy said the bike is in great shape. wants $1200 CDN for it. just start it and go. that is dirt cheap, inmho. it goes against my budget, but I am thinking of getting that one as well. you know....a set....750 and 1100.
My 93 1100 will probably go up for sale real soon. I need to get the 92 with the V&H engine done...then work on the vintage 1100, then maybe the 750 if I pick that up as well.
so if you want something you can run home, I will keep an eye open for you. I did find a beautiful runner, but it is a steep price, albeit, nogotiable. It looks to be in beautiful shape...but like a said....alot more than $1000.
I gotta be honest......I kinda lost my desire to ride....for now. don't get me wrong....still enjoy it, but I think I actually enjoy working on and restoring even more. I am bored with my bike. It has just been to damn long rding the same model. And the new bikes just don't seem to do it for me. I can own a half a dozen nice old classics for the price of a new one, and have fun bringing them back to life.
ps. Check out what the guy has on his garage door. definately a kat fan.I don't have a short temper. I just have a quick reaction to bullshit.

Thanks for keeping an eye out. Yeah the link you gave is a bit steep for me...much like many of the ones I can find around here. The only type I'm not really interested in is the popup headlight variety. I think you should find me a 1000cc+ runner I can drive back and then find a dead 1100 you can put you V&H motor in

you could always have it shipped. I have a forklift, loading dock, and can easily make a shipping crate. it might be alot cheaper in the long run, just in case you break down on the way home. after all, we are talking a 23-26yr old bike and what? 2500 to 3000 miles? You are braver than me heading off on a journey like that with a 20+yr old strange bike.I don't have a short temper. I just have a quick reaction to bullshit.
