  • Anyone watch the show "Cafe Racer"?

I love this show! It has little segents, but a big part is people/shops that take old brit/jap bikes from the wreckers and turn them into gorgeous cafe racers.
The last episodes I saw had some nice bikes made from the CX500, one old guy in england made one out of a cx650 turbo (wow!) and another had his built around a gsx1600. Now, I have never heard of a four banger that big from suzi, but perhaps it was a bored out 1400- the engine case did say "Wiseco".
They made a Yamaha 450 with a Britten style front shock, they even interview Billy Joel who loves the bikes. There are lots of Brit bikes, some have parts from different makes, all look bad a$$.
The video is great, they mount cameras on the bikes and the sound; it is not fake, these bikes each have a unique sound. When they show a group of them together, it looks like mechanical jewelry.

I've never seen the show, but I love the sound of Brit bikes. I've always had a soft spot for the sound of the Triumph 650 twins. The '68 Bonneville was the cat's *** back then..... a dream machine for those of us who have ridden one. Yamaha in '74 came out a fairly good copy, and I had one. There's quite a few vids on youtube about the cafe clubs over there..... they're definitely into it.
sigpicLife throws you curves......enjoy the ones you get when riding.

I get it off of DISH. Billy Joel was funny when interviewed. He said (and I am paraphrasing) that he didn't get choppers- they take HD's and covered them dragons, chrome, stretch them out to the point where they are dangerous and what is the point of that? Why go out of your way to make something that is inherently dangerous? Then, you ride the thing trying to tell the world that you are so bad!.
he talked about his past bikes, wanted a Motoguzzi V50, ("If anyone has one, let me know!").
If there is one thing that doesn't exist on the show, it is bike snobbery. Brit/Jap/Italian, it is all good.
The shop mechanics interviewed say that the old jap bikes had incredible tough motors and a lot of them ended up in wreckers because people didn't know how to maintain them. One cafe special shop (that appears to specialize in jap bikes) is within a mile of the Yorktown HD factory! Really neat show, for the shop mechanics on this board, might be better than porn and free beer, but yeah, my wife is bored to tears with the show. This show is really bad for you though- I watched an episode, then, before retiring, went to ebay to look for a Yamaha SR500. See what I mean?

Kind of funny to hear of Billy Joel bashing choppers, considering he had Orange County Knobbers build him a bike a while back, but it wasn't a stretched out POS like they usually make...

Because of this thread, I've now set my DVR to record it whenever it's on. I've never seen it before, but it sounds like my kind of show!
