personally, I think they are more for looks than comfort. I have 2 for my 1100's and I find both of them to be a bit too hard. my stock seat would have to bug me alot before I ever bought another.
However, I do have a Travelcade and can ride all day with no discomfort.
That is just my opinion. I am sure many love ot they would have been out of business long ago.
I don't have a short temper. I just have a quick reaction to bullshit.
Depend , most seem to love them or hate them . I don't think they're all bad , but the guy I bought it from HATED it . They're ALOT firmer , and heavier , but they're wider , too . I was hurting the backs of my legs after a few hours with the stock seat , I think because it was too narrow .
I got one for my '02, so I'm guessing it may be a little different than the pre 98's . But you'll have to pry it from my dead cold hands before I'd give up my Corbin.
I found it much more comfy than the stock, once it was properly broken in (was fairly hard when new). It's a lot wider too, which is good for me 'cause I got a big ass.
(A) I have a cobin and love it. It's actually my third or fourth (every time I get a new or new-to-me bike, I order a new corbin). Yes, the foam is denser in consistency and thinner, but spread across a larger area and flatter. This combines to sink your height on the bike a bit, which is good for mass-centralization, but it usually takes about a month for a typical rider to really break in a new corbin saddle fully (until it wants to snug to you -- figure 20 - 30 hours in the saddle).
(B) Corbin no longer makes the pre-98 600 seat pan in-house. That means to get a corbin, you either need to send them your OEM seat pan, OR you need to find a corbin that was built when they were still making the seat pans for the pre-98's. I can't remember the year change-over for the 750's (96?) to the new seat style...
(C) They will make it to any custom spec you want, including colored panels, different sizing for different inseams, etc. If you get it and it doesn't suite you, they will do one alteration for free.
(D) In general, I recommend, based on personal experiences (both good and bad ones) that you stick to flat leather for the seating areas (at least the front), vinyl for the seam wraps around the edges & the short side-panels. Textured patterns hold rain if you get caught out, plus it's easier to slide your body left/right on the flat leather. Leather seam wraps tend to wear down quickly (my current one has that issue) compared to the vinyl.
Ive got the stock seat on mine..but Ive sat on and rode with corbins many times and they are more comfortable than the stock seats and they look alot nicer. The optional back rest is nice for riding 2up.
For pure comfort though, I'd take a gel seat over anything.
Yes, yes I did.
Personally I found that the corbin was comforatble IF you are able to sit all the way back in it like it was designed. Guys 6' and over should have no problems. If your shorter like me though then you cannot sit in the "butt pocket" and comfortably reach the bars so you end up with the rise at the front poking you in the arse (feel like your sitting on a fence) and the sides digging into the back of your legs.....at least that's what it did to me.
Still nice seats and awesome for passengers if you get the back rest too but if you don't "fit" it, it can make riding a miserable experience..... at least that was my experience.

Did you ever attempt to have your Corbin reshaped?

that's what I didn't like about it...the sides digging into the back of my legs. and yes...it is great for passengers. if I am going on a long ride with a passenger, I will slap on the corbin with the backrest.

I too have a corbin ('92 Kat 750)... and I love it. Last year I did a couple of long weekend trips (varied from 200-500+ miles), and was always pretty saddle-sore by the end. So I watched ebay and picked up a used Corbin for about $75. Although it took me awhile to get used to it... I love it (as does my wife riding as a passenger).
There are a few things I'd change though. Being that it was 2nd hand, I had no choice in the material used... it has a wierd texture to it (kind of like a pronounced "scrim" vinyl does) that you can feel after extended rides (something at least a bit smoother would be nice). Also, the "butt pocket" is just a few inches too far back for my taste - but I may just build up some foam there to resolve that.
In any case, I highly recommend one if you're looking to do some longer rides!
