Well, all this talk of Sprocket changes and wheekies 'n stuff has been chewing at me so, last Friday I did it. After speaking with the service tech at my local shop, I decided to install a 14 tooth front sprocket.
I don't think I like it...
...but I don't know exactly why.
I installed in conjunction with a K&N filter and I must say that the difference was immediate and impressive.
From a full stop the bike accelerates to near redline with little effort. It's as though the bike shed 100 pounds. Of course, with the engine already into the low to mid nine thousand RPMs , the rest of the gears are quickly eaten up, and your speed is now registering in the rediculous zone. With the engine now sucking fresh air through it better that ever before, it has aquired a hyper high pitch that almost hurts the ears. Like wise, the exhaust tone coming out of the Carbon Fibre slip on has also changed. It has a sharper tone but still deep. Kind of like a big caliber hand gun going off, inches from your ear.
Now all of that is great. It's exactly what I was hoping for...except...
...I can't stop riding like I'm in a GP race. I was out on three occasions since this weekends conversion, for a total of about 4 hours riding, and all of it at "SuperSonic".
Combined with the new tires I installed a couple of weeks ago and the change in rake, from lowering the front end, this bike handles spectacularly well.
So why don't I like it?
The desire to ride it like I stole it is very strong. Too strong. That's why I didn't buy a SS bike in the first place.
I guess it just reinforces the phrase "Becareful what you wish for. You might just get it."
