  • Got new tires

Ok, so after a long search and find, and info and reading threads. I desided to go with the Conti force sport touring tire. I went with the 170/60zr17 for the rear, and 120/70zr17 for the front. I know its bigger then the max of 160/6017. But I researched the tire and size and it can safely be mounted on a 4.4 to 5.5 rim..

I installed them and took the bike on a 100 mile trip. No rubbing, plenty of room. And what is really interesting is that the spedo is almost on the money. Atleast when I went past the speed sign... lol

Thanks to all the tire threads....

As for the speedo, most speedometers on modern vehicles read faster than actual speed. This has been a point of contention for me for quite a while. It doesn't add up to a lot but I've seen some off by up to 5% which can affect warranty. I'm happy with mine after the regearing and now the slightly larger tires, just had to find some speed / mile markings on the road to tell how fast each speed is. Now I know that 65 is actually 71 and I can adjust my speed to keep John Law at bay.

Yeah, its got about 1/2 inch on each side.. I wouldn't try anything bigger then that without a different rim and swing arm..

The post 98 has more room than the pre. And the stock 4.5 inch rim is the recommended width for many of the manufacturers 170 tires. Guess that's another reason to like the post more than the pre.

I just had the same tires mounted on my rims in a 120/70 and 150/70, have yet to put the front rim back on the bike though....I can't wait to see how they ride

I am getting a set of the Road Attacks on my pre-750 this weekend. It will be the first time I have had radials (I have had Dunlop GT-501 bias plies for a while) so I am curious as to how the Conti's will differ in handling and what not.

well, i had tomahawk tires on mine before, rear lasted about 3500 miles, did handle bad. did have a vibration around 75mph. but now its like nite and day. smooth up to 95mph and not even a hint is slippage in turns. Not that the old tires slipped, but just didnt seem secure in a tight turn..
