Problems with front wheel bearings and steering bearings

Has anyone had problems with or is there a known problem with the bearings in the front wheel and the bearings in the steering stem? I have a 1999 750 Kat with 10,000 miles on it. I don't ride it hard. I keep the maintence up and the bike is in excellent shape. I'm having them replaced but the front bearings are sealed and have dried out.Is it because of the age of the bike?

the bearing are not sealed, the other side is wide open.

if u use a pressure washer and wash around the bearings you can knock the grease out causing the bearings to go bad prematurely
