  • Let's talk 80's vs 90's

    Hey, gang.

Last week I took an '87 750 for a spin and loved it!

    This weekend I'm gonna take a '98 750 out and can't wait.

These are the only 2 I've found so far. I just need something that is gonna be good handling, good on gas and comfortable. Not interested in speeding. Been there, done that.

Both bikes are priced right ('87 is $1855...'98 is $3900...I KNOW they will go lower). Oh, yeah..should mention I plan to do some streetfighter mods.

So, bike vs. bike...which is the good and bad and why?

    Thanks!

    Nuff said.

The pre-98 750 has more HP and a nicer front end (body wise - IMHO) but an ugly tail section (again, IMHO)

There are others on here who will disagree.

If you're looking for a bike that's good on gas, it all depends what you're comparing it to. This bike is the worst I've ever owned for fuel economy.

not an 87, that does not look like an 89-97 Katana 750, I honestly don't know if it exists, but I don't want to say it don't then be wrong.

If you are going to streetfighter anyway I'd go with the pre98. I think the pre98 has a better platform for a streetfighter project, not to say a 98+ wouldn't be able to make a good fighter project, but I prefer the pre.

because in 87 it MAY have been a GS, like a vintage Katana. The dealer is full of ****, the first year they made the "Katana" 750 was 1989. Don't go there again.

So is this "1988" a situation where they came out with the model late in the year, like the "65" mustang and most people refer to them at 89s, or is it just mis information completely?

What ever year it is you have to go for the pre 98 if you want to build a streetfighter. I haven't seen many people build a good streetfighter out of a 98+ (not to say it can't be done).

Well, I'm just looking forward to the weekend so I can compare the 2. The '88 0r '89 (I'll stop calling it an '87) I rode last weekend was a great bike. Excellent condition. Just felt and handled like exactly what I'm looking for.
