I went out for a ride after work tonight and the Kat dropped two cylinders and I barely limped home. Upon finally getting to my driveway, I touched the tubes and 1 and 4 were much cooler. I suspect I need to replace the coil ( and now probably fouled plugs). Am I on the right track? Any suggestions are welcomed.

Swap the coils and see if the problem moves. If it doesn't... then the coil isn't your problem.-Steve

I had a similar instance as you, but in my case it was not the coil but it was the wiring harness that powered the coil. I swapped out the wiring harness because I could not find the electrical issue in resonable time.

According to my wiring diagram, the ignitor uses a white wire and a black/yellow stripe wire to signal the coils. You can pull the plugs back far enough on the coils to get your multi meter leads in there. Then hit the starter and you should see voltage jump up and down as it sends the signal to the coils. If not, then bad Ignitor.
My money is on the coil.

Thanks for the advice all. I went to the dealer after work today and they're going to check out the coil and wires when I bring it in next week. If it's not the coil then I'm going to be picking everyone's brains.sigpicLife throws you curves......enjoy the ones you get when riding.
