If you go with a 14 tooth on the front it will up engine rpm by about 200. You should'nt need a new chain, after I tightened up mine the rear wheel was 1/4 inch back farther than the original position.

If you have more than 1,000 miles on a chain/sprocket combination, you SHOULD change all if you change any.

Considering your chain was stretched, I'm gonna guess you have a little more than 1,000 miles on it.

This ain't no macho BS. You are dealing with life and death.

For the price of a chain, it just isn't worth it.

              How do you tell?

When it has to be adjusted every couple hundred miles or it rattles when you kick it that is a sure fire time to replace it. You can measure the streatch to know also but I dont know the mesurment for a kat chain. I assume its a 520 chain?

Omegaman is right on with the sprocket deal.

As I said in previous comment, yes I know I need a new chain. Chains break it happens, I have been with alot of people when there chains broke and never seen it do anything like that, not saying it cant happen. But anything can happen when on a bike. I will change my chain, so please no more you should be or could be dead comments.

Gripp, did u say that the -1 front sprocket will change the speed of the engine by 200 rpms? do you guys know how much a 14,50 combination will change it? im just scared that i drop some cash for a sprocket set and chain, drop it in, and hate the fact that i cant run down the highway with less than 7k on the tach.

I ran on the interstate at 6.5 or 6.8 on my kat 750 with the gearing it had when I sold it. Cant remember the exact gearing. I didnt have any problems.

LOL, so, you think i am not giving up much for the -1,+2. what would you guys think of a -1,+3?

also, what do you guys recommend so far as where to buy and what to buy so far as brands and type of chain/sprocket?

sprocket specialist is a great site. DID and EK are good companies for chains. Im trying vortex rear sprockets this round cus Renthol suck bad. Sun star and Jt both have decent fronts. And -1+2 would be fine. You will loose about ten to fifteen mph top end but thats no big deal.

I have talked to alot of people about them but its all depending on exactly what you plan to do. Everyone recommend -1front and +3 back. But there is -2 front and Ive seen a 73 tooth rear. So decide exactly what you want and go from there.

If you do not care about a very high top and gas, a wheelie machine,I would go -1 front (never go -2 front, will eat chain) and +5 or more in back.

If you only want to lose a little top and gas, raise accel a little, still have to pop clutch just not near as much, -1 front +3 back.

Want to keep top about same and gas same and raise a little accel and a little easier to pop it up,
-1 front or +3 back, both the same.

I get a good deal on jt and sunstar, so if you want to piece your own set together let me know and ill give you a price. If you want a package go to www.sumofallparts.net and call them they got a good custom kit you can even get colored sprockets and chains and convert to a 520x chain which is lighter and keeps lubed better.
