  • New Member..Hey All

Hey fellas, new member here.... added yet another bike to the stable - a '96 Katana 600 with 22k on the clock. The color scheme is straight outta the 90's, love it! Also own an 89 Yamaha Fj1200, and a 91 Ninja 250. Wanted a comfortable carburated inline-4 bike for the twisties in Colorado. The Katana fit the need perfectly, and a great time to buy it.

My list of Maint/Mods are as follows :
    Clean Varnish from Tank
    Seafoam Carbs
New Choke cable (ordered, on the way)
Oil Filter/Oil change (Changing to Full Synthetic)
    Inline fuel filter addition
    Single Seat Cowl
    Frame Sliders
    4-1 Exhaust Mod
    Tachometer light replacement
    HID Headlight Replacement
    Rear Shock Replacement

The bike is in great shape cosmetically, and came with new tires and battery.
Choke cable is broken, took the tank off tonight and had a look. I know most of this has been gone over on this board, but help to the threads appreciated. The search function isn't great...Thanks for the help!

*Plug and play 4-1 Exhaust ? Will a 750 header bolt on without mods? Not looking to spend 400 on fleabay
*Frame Slider options? I dont mind cuttin' on the plastics. Swingarm Spool?
*Plug and play rear shock options? I dont want to fab dogbones, I like the ride height, but one or two inches higher would be okay

        Welcome!

        Couple things:
don't add fuel filters, you will have starvation issues. The bike was designed to not have them. The strainer in your petcock acts as a filter.

Find the wiki and read carbs 101 for cleaning/rebuilding. Not sure how well seafoam will work for soaking parts in, but berryman's chem dip is great.

For a shock, go with the 98+ 750 shock. It is rebuildable and a direct swap. Shocks from bandit 1200s also fit, but raise the rear (don't remember how much, 1"+?)

750 header will bolt right up. If you want, you can swap the oil pan from a 98+ and then use it's 4-1. The pan needs to be swapped or you have clearance issues. Might have to swap something else as well, going from memory and I haven't personally done it.

I don't think anyone still makes frame sliders for the pres (pre = before 98, post = 98 and beyond) but I could be mistaken

The google search function works waaaay better

        Enjoy the new ride!
