  • Race Tech fork springs

    A couple years ago or so I installed Race Tech fork springs on my bike. At the time I was worried that too stiff springs would make the front end harsh, so I bought .90 kg/mm springs although the spring calculator on the site said that I needed 1.0 kg/mm springs. I also have an R6 rear shock with the preload maxed out because of my 225lbs weight. The bike feels a bit nervous at low speed and under braking. How much of a difference in handling would it make if I installed the 1.0 kg/mm springs? Would it be worth it?

    Honestly sounds more like a new front tire would take care of that. Not sure on the difference between .9 and 1.0. Maybe TMod will chime in

        It had new Pr2's a couple years ago, as well as new head stock and wheel bearings.

          New tires a couple years ago doesn't mean their still good today. There could be a few things wrong with them, such as cupping, how have you stored the bike and for how long? Since you're in Canada its probably been a little while.

            You say your bike"feels a bit nervous" at low speed and braking, is any of this while cornering or in a straight line?

              I live in a part of Canada where I could ride all year round if I didnt mind getting wet, Ive been riding since February. I have nothing to compare the handling of my bike to, never rode a newer bike. I am thinking that my front end is sagging too much. I once found on here how much sag you should have. Anyone know where proper sag amounts are listed?

                Shoot for 34mm sag in the rear and 38 up front, Once you get those numbers let us know. With the addition of the shorter shock in the rear as well as being sprung too light and too light of springs in the forks you are going to have geometry issues.

                  The front sag is about right on, but the rear is off.
                  Rear end held up topped out 553mm
                  bike resting 533
                  me on the bike 488
                  So, 45mm sag in the rear
                  Rear shock preload is maxed out.
                  Shows the opposite of what I thought it would be.
                  That should give it more trail in the front IIRC.
                  I can tell just by when I sit on the bike that the rear settles more than the front.
