So... on my commute home... moderate twisties for the last 40 or so miles... I'm having fun, not crazy fun, just fun.
So, I get onto a straight away, and I'm right around 70ish on the speedo (65ish actually), and I just put a new throttle rocker on, so I'm sort of playing with the throttle... Just having a good old normal riding experience.
There's a white truck a mile or so ahead, I don't think twice... as he passes me, I notice it says K-9 on the side, everything else is under cover. I have 2 mirrors full of break lights, and he's turning around.
Crappola, I think. I fist/foot the brakes/clutch... I pull right over. I know I'm busted, my dummy fault, I was breaking the law
So... I pull all the way over on the crest of a hill, for best visibility for cars either way. I park at an angle, as to point my headlight at oncoming traffic, and so he can walk up to the side of the bike. I take off my gloves, take off my helmet. Unzip my jacket (business casual has to say something).
The officer comes up.. here is the exchange.
Officer: Do you know how fast you were going?
Me: Yup... about Seventy? (I figure it was at least that, why lie. I think he was surprised by my honest response)
He nods, knowingly...
Officer: Licence?
Me: Yes, can I open my tank bag and get my wallet?
Officer: Sure...
Me: Here it is.
Officer: Do you have proof of insurance?
Me: Yes, can I reach into my tank bag, again... the big section?
Officer: Sure, thanks for asking.
So, he grabs all the goodies and goes back to his car. I'm going through the normal thought process.. what's wifey gonna say? Insurance? etc...
He comes back...
Officer: Do you have your permit?
Me: Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't even think about that... Here it is... (take it from my wallet)
The officer looks at it and hands it back. "You have a nice day, and keep the speed down. About 2 miles ahead, there is a bunch of farm work on the highway on the backside of a hill, be careful of the mud. I'll wait a few minutes so you can get your gear back on."
I was speechless... "er, uhmm, well... Thanks officer!"
Hehe... Yippie.. I drove the speed limit the rest of the way home
I guess honesty and being nice paid off a little bit. I was willing to take the ticket regardless, I knew I was breaking the law, and he was doing his job.
Carry on with your day, thought I would share.
