  • Brake Light Inop

I'm having trouble with my brake light. When I pull the front brake lever, the tail lamp doesn't light-up. The brakes work fine though. Only if I pull up on the lever a certain way will the light come on, but then it goes right out. When I engage the rear brake pedal, the tail lamp lights-up without a problem.

Has anyone had this problem before, and if so, what did you do to fix it? It scary as hell, especially at night if I just use the front brake a low speeds. Any help would be cool.

Sounds like the switch is bad at the lever. Replace switch. Fill out your Garage while you are here too so we know what you ride.

I would start by taking the switch apart, and cleaning the connections with contact cleaner. I can't remember if the kat has a spring in there or not, so be careful when dis-assembling.

Also if you've replaced your levers with non-OEM levers... it might not be contacting the switch correctly.

        Steves,

I did change-out the lever, but this problem just started about a week or so ago. I'll put the old lever back back on and see if that works. If not, I ll try to do the cleaning thing to see if that helps.

        Thanks man.

There was a recall not that long ago on Motion Pro levers...

The brake switch can get bad.. My light wasn't working and I tore the whole thing apart until I found it was intermittent. I fought with mine until I replaced it with a new one. Not the right one mind you ! Hey! I take the brake light operation very seriously!
So I installed a mil spec, roller bearing mircoswitch..

The switch is pretty common, I have found some the sure look just like it on ebay for $6..
