  • Worn intake boot o-rings

Old bikes beware, if you are having problems with erratic idle, the o-rings on the intake boots might be in need of replacement.

Old on the left, new on the right.

Are these between the boot an cylinder head? Pardon my ignorance, but I haven't taken the boots off yet.

Actually, no. I RTV'd one of the old boots while waiting for the parts to come in, and it didn't seem to help at all. The RTV "dries flat" and I'm not sure it makes a good seal.

Also check for cracks in the boot itself like I had on my 2001.

Thanks so much for all of this guys. I have been having major problems with my Kat running. Cleaned the carbs, replaced the sparks, went to check the boot seals and found that they were FLAT as anything. Anyway, I was really wondering if the boots for all Kats are the same (lots changed in 98). Went to tighten two of them back down and ended up breaking them.... Need to get them.... What year boots should I get? (the older years are cheaper on e-bay)
