  • Trouble while adjusting valves

While adjusting my valves I dropped a bolt down the hole the spark plugs go in (number 1) , How "boned" am I oooooor could I simply by a long magnet and fish it out some how?
    Thanks in advance

I would try the long magnet idea first.

yep, I'm a Suzuki dealer tech, and the magnet is my most overworked tool, it's saved my life more times then I care to admit.

A screwdriver with a dab of heavy grease can work on non-ferrous items also.

Wait , what bolt did you drop down there that actually fit in the cylinder and why was it even close to that area ? Just curious . And yeah , the telescopic magnet stays in my toolkit . It's a WONDERFUL invention .

remove the plugs *after* you are done moving bolts around... but no, you aren't boned there isn't anywhere for it to go... it's sitting on a piston now.

That would probably be the smart thing to do, but if I'm not mistaken, the manual tells you to take the spark plugs out before you get the valve cover off. So he may not have known any better. Why they have it in that sequence, I have no idea.

It'll take quite a bit of work to fish it out with the magnet, and depending on where the piston is in it's stroke, you may be yanking your hair out before you're done. On top of magnet-rods, I also own a 22" long pair for foreceps to help me recover stupidity-induced dropping of parts...

WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT ROTATE THE ENGINE WITH THE BOLT STILL IN THERE.

                  Cheers,

Mostly because your year has aluminum pistons and coated-aluminum bores; pretty much the only thing magnetic in there is the rings and the piece you dropped (plus the valves, but they're not going anywhere).

                            Cheers,
