  • A question on engines.

From what I understand in my research is that the 600 and 750 motors are interchangable from one bike to another, as long as the years match. What I am trying to figure out is this, I have a 95 gsxf 600, and I have located a 97 Gsxr 750 motor, Does anyone know if it will still bolt straight in? or do I have to modify mounting points? I'd love to make this swap, just trying to figure out how easy it will be.

it wont fit straight in, youd have to do ALOT of modification to get it to. why not just drop a kat 1100 or bandit 1200 motor in? theyre almost direct drop ins.

Good info. Thanks for the chart. Basically the reason I even entertained the idea is because I can get the engine for $50.00 since it is just sitting and this individual has no intention of ever using it. I was hoping that the GSXR and THE GSXF motors were mounted the same and would just slide in. Oh and the motor comes with everything from the airbox down to the transmission, so.... yeah...

The drive line is probably different. Nothing that couldn't be corrected for if you are willing to put the time and effort into it.

buy it, sell it for a profit and buy you a bandit motor
a few people have done that swap and been very happy with it

Well I have kinda set a budget for the bike and have most of it mapped out, This would have been a great saver but if I am gonna have to cut, weld, and fabricate I imagine dropping an 1100 motor in will get me that desired result just as well and in less time, i.e. this summer. perhaps I will buy it for another project...

Why is it that no one wants to ship, I'd drop $300.00 bones to ship ona $70.00 motor, and still come out ahead

It does say in the auction that you can do your own arrangments for shipping or you can pick it up.

ok, while I have the thread open, I had another guy, friend of a friend kinda deal, offer me a Kat 750 motor out of a 1995 Kat 750, He claims it's rated at 105-107 hp, and if my research on my bike is correct the 95 Kat 600 is an 86 Claimed HP, so 20 HP gain seems like a good deal to me. The issue is that he wants 500 clams for said motor and assembley, doesn't seem terribly high to me, but still plenty of money seeing as that's how much I bought the bike for. So here is where I am at, What would a fair price for a 95 Katana 600 Engine and setup be, If I can get enough out of my engine setup I would be more than happy to pony up the coin to make up the difference, say $100.00 or so, but I really think my engine setup could sell for $500.00 and I could break even. What do you guys think? worth a shot?

It's on my watch list... yes, I'll drive to pick it up (10 hour trip one way... )

Don't have that much to spend on it though, so if it goes for stupid high I'm gonna miss out.
